Abstract

The existing version of the technology for decision-making support regarding architectural variations of “Command Query Responsibility Segregation” (CQRS) combined with Event Sourcing does not account for the hardware costs of a computer system when determining the optimal architectural variation. At the same time, the choice of hardware configuration affects the performance of the computer system. The objective of the study is to improve the technology by extending the process of determining the optimal architectural variation with mechanisms for evaluating the hardware component of the computer system. This shifts the role of performance from a maximization criterion to a condition for ensuring Service Level Agreement compliance with the minimum necessary hardware costs. The study analyzes approaches to selecting a hardware configuration for a computer system. The technology was modified by integrating approaches to evaluating hardware configurations of computer systems. The modified technology separates the costs of software development and maintenance from the costs of purchasing or renting hardware and determines the optimal architectural variation according to the criterion of minimizing total costs. The application of the modified technology to two architectural variations, “mCQRS” and “Classical CQRS”, showed that software costs for “mCQRS” are twenty-eight percent lower than for “Classical CQRS”, whereas hardware configuration costs are thirteen point five percent higher. The original version of the technology does not reveal this difference because it does not account for hardware costs. The proposed modification improves the objectivity of determining the optimal architectural variation by explicitly accounting for the costs of both the software and hardware components of the computer system.
